Neolith® achieves carbon neutral status
The market-leading surfacing brand is now carbon neutral.
By compensating its carbon footprint, Neolith® stopped releasing gate-to-gate CO2 emissions in 2019.

Neolith®, one of the most sustainable and environmentally-friendly materials on the Market.
To attain the highly-prized carbon neutral status Neolith® followed the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) and implemented a dynamic, innovation-led sustainability strategy coupled with tactical, high value carbonoff-setting.

Our Commitment and Results in 2019
These measures have led to carbon neutrality across the entire business, significantly seeing the brand receiving 100% of its electricity in the year 2019 from renewable energy sources. This means no less than 7,690 tons of CO2 emissions have been removed. (*the 2019 electricity mix published by the Spanish Ministry for the Ecological Transition calculator was used for this calculation).
On the other hand, 90% of the waste generated by Neolith® is recycled and given a second life either with company operations or through authorized 3rd party players which goes to prove the brand’s solid commitment to a circular economy.
Neolith® surfaces also embody these principles, with up to 48% of the weight of each slab produced from recycled material. (*depends on the model, see the www.neolith.com/us/documentation/).
Plant machinery has been Plant machinery has been, particularly the 3rd line’s furnace which has benefitted from the installation of an O2 and pressure control system, significantly reducing the amount of gas consumed. This is complemented by a 40% reduction of forklift truck diesel consumption and a 20% decrease in hazardous waste.
A policy has also been implemented to reduce the quantity of disposable plastic, which is a small measure yet leads to major progress in reaching carbon neutrality.
Given the brand’s founding vision, achieving carbon neutral represents the achievement of a core company objective.

Neolith® bases its business practices on sustainability and environmental respect.
All these measures directly meet GHG Protocolobjectives, which include: direct emissions company activity (e.g. natural gas, gasoil used in forklifts, cars in property), emissions from electricity used and other indirect emissions, generated from other day to day company activity.
Making a difference
Neolith® has also undertaken a number of environmental projects in line with its wider sustainability strategy. These projects compensate for and absorb a specific quantity of CO2.
Chief amongst these is an exciting, upcoming project in Central America to protect and maintain the unique biodiversity of the Guatemalan Caribbean Conservation Coast.

Through this project, Neolith® will be seen working to protect the unique biodiversity of the forests and jungles remaining in the regionand helping to fight the factors leading to deforestation through effective application of the law, efficient territorial planning, education, economic opportunities and sustainable agriforest initiatives.
As a direct result of the project activities, four million tons of CO2 will be avoided by 2021, the equivalent of taking over 440,000 homes off the grid for a year. When considering the lifetime of the project over 30 years, the CO2 avoided will be closer to 22 million.
There are also important biodiversity benefits given that over 400 species of birds that have been documented in the project will be protected as well as the habitats of an abundance of mammals and reptiles, including 30 High Conservation Value (HCV) species.
